LED Growing Lights For Plants – Color And Convenience In One Package

Maintaining an indoor garden can be quite a task. However, more homeowners are trying to take care of plants away from their natural environment or from the garden and growing them in greenhouses and sunrooms. Plants use photosynthesis in order to grow and light is the most important component in photosynthetic activity. Unfortunately, indoors is usually not the place where it is abundant and without this essential element, the plants will just wither and die. It can be quite frustrating to have a rare and exotic tropical flower withering because of inadequate lighting. Through modern innovations though, LED growing lights for plants are available in the market today.

There are numerous manufacturers nowadays due to the demand of modern gardeners. One can choose from incandescent, fluorescent, and high pressure sodium grow lamps. Recent innovations in the production of LEDs have produced LED grow lights which are quite popular due to their durability and low energy requirement. Unlike most other grow lights for indoor plants, they are long-lasting and are able to produce a variety of light wavelengths necessary for optimum plant growth. They also produce less heat and can be arranged closer to the plant canopy as compared to other garden lamps. An LED grow light is practical for small scale indoor gardens such as germinating seeds or growing saplings. They are also cheaper than most growing lights for plants and require much less energy.

Being the smallest lighting system available in the market today, they can be arranged in canopy panels to the appropriate size of your indoor garden platforms or greenhouse benches. A combination of different light values is also possible with LED lights as they are produced individually with their own wavelengths. Optimal photosynthetic lighting is suggested to be the combination of blue, red and orange lights and can be adjusted accordingly to produce desired results such as growing or flowering.

Full spectrum LED grow lights are best for the person who loves to cultivate plants indoors, whether for food consumption or simply as a hobby. If you are interested in this hobby and you want to start this activity yourself, there are a few things that you must consider before you begin.

The first thing you need to know about is the correct color. This is because the color of the light has a direct effect on how your plants develop. Plants have leaves that are loaded with chlorophyll, which is essentially the power source of the whole plant. If the wrong color is chosen, what you’ve planted might still grow, but they will most probably look sickly, which is bad if you’re trying to cultivate some vegetables or fruit.

There are three colors which have been shown to have a positive effect on plant growth. These are blue, red, and green. Among these, blue has the greatest effect on the chlorophyll. Red is the second, and green is the third. But there are two important things to know about these results. First, the colors extend over a certain range of the wavelength spectrum, meaning that shades of blue to violet would also work, as well as shades of red and various shades of green.

The second thing to know is that certain types of plants grow better with certain types of LED growing lights. For instance, if you prefer to grow non-flowering varieties, then your best bet is to use blue LED grow lighting, within the wavelengths of 450-470 nm range. On the other hand, if you want to grow the flowering varieties, then a red LED grow light in the 630-660 nm range would be best. But if you prefer to mix different types of plants, then you need to mix both lights, in what is known as a dual or even multiple-band setup, with each having a different ratio of blue to red lights. This will give you the best overall results and cover just about any range of lighting you might need for growing plants indoors.

  1. The blue spectrum of LED lights provide adequate and relaxing environment for the sound growth of plants. Another advantage of using LED lamps for gardening is the basic modes of operation. LED does not work on mercury or any other toxic element. It is safe and does not change the temperature inside the chamber with radiant heating. Less heat is certainly welcome in the world of hydroponics grow lights, especially in closed areas. We look forward to seeing how these lamps perform in the real growth in hydroponics or aquaculture environment.
